to Combat Stress”
“Yoga is not about touching your toes. It is about what you learn on the way down.”
-Jigar Gor
Welcome to Journey Yoga where the focus of our practice is on the core meaning of yoga: union
of mind, body, and soul. We believe that, no matter where you are in your current Journey, yoga and meditation can support you in living that Journey to the fullest. Whether you have never
done yoga before or have been doing yoga for years, Journey Yoga is centered on exploring your
current experience of being yourself and ways you are being invited to expand, grow, and create.
“Your body exists in the past, your mind exists in the future. In yoga, they come together in the present.”

Yin Yoga
A slow-paced style of yoga as exercise
Incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (poses) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles and more supported postures are used. Advanced practitioners may stay in one asana for five minutes or more. Where more "yang" styles focus on stretching and stressing the muscles, yin yoga focuses on supporting the health of the connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, joints, fascia). Yin yoga helps you stretch and lengthen those rarely-used tissues while also teaching you how to breathe through discomfort and sit with your thoughts.
Restoritive Yoga
A style that encourages physical, mental, and
emotional relaxation.
Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced at a slow pace,
focusing on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing. As the name suggests, this style of yoga “restores” the body to its parasympathetic nervous system function, which, in turn, helps the
body rest, heal, and restore balance. A key feature in restorative yoga is the use of props such as blocks, bolsters, or blankets. The props help you hold passive poses for longer without exerting
or tiring out your muscles. It also allows you to feel comfortable and supported, regardless of your experience with yoga.
Yoga Nidra
Techniques that help you investigate all that you take yourself to be
Similar in some ways to guided meditation, Yoga Nidra invites
you to experience the complex phenomena of who and what you are. As you do, you become less swayed by, or identified with, any thought, belief, emotion, sensation, image or experience. Instead, you witness these changing phenomena without judgement, and without grasping them or pushing them away. As a result, your habitual ways of reacting to things in life are then replaced by unshakable equanimity, even in the midst of change and uncertainty. At Journey Yoga we practice a form of Yoga Nidra called iRest Yoga Nidra.
Journey Yoga
Yoga: A peak-pose form of yoga, Journey Yoga is patterned after the progression of our own life journeys. We begin is a goal in mind, in this case a “peak pose,” and then do the necessary strengthening, stretching, balancing, and internal foundations to safely enter and exit the pose. Peak poses are those poses that are complex, meaning that there are multiple aspects of our bodies and minds involved in the process, not necessarily poses chosen by their level of difficulty. Anyone can join a Journey Yoga sequence, as all Journeys meet us where we are and work from there.
